Do you work for a Company that offers a Cafeteria Plan?

A Cafeteria Plan permits employees to authorize the employer to reduce their pay for expenses such as Health Insurance, Day Care and medical/Dental expenses not covered by insurance. The company then saves payroll taxes and the employee saves FICA, Federal and State taxes.
Weight-Loss Program:

Yes, an eligible expense if the weight loss is recommended by a physician to treat an existing disease, and is not just to improve general health. A physician’s note is required for claim approval. Note must state the medical condition as to why the doctor is recommending a weight loss program.

Ineligible if:

Cannot include the cost of a weight-loss program in medical expenses if the purpose of the weight control is to maintain your general good health. But you can include the cost of a weight-loss program undertaken at a physician’s direction to treat an existing disease (such as heart disease).
Check with your cafeteria plan provider for weight-loss eligible expenses.
